Two underappreciated geologic features of the United States are its natural arches & natural bridges. Many travelers have heard of Utah's Arches National Park, but did you know that the United States has several thousand other arches and natural bridges, including thousands across the entire Southwest, hundreds throughout the Mid-Atlantic, and also dozens in many states along both of our coasts? We have put together a highly-opinionated list of what we believe to be the top arches & natural bridges in the United States. It is not an easy task to pick the best arches & natural bridges out of a pool of thousands, so this web-page will forever be a work-in-progress as we travel & visit more arches & natural bridges across the country. This list is sorted alphabetically by state (and not by rating or quality). Take note that many of these arches contain the words "natural bridge" in their name; however, they are technically arches, and not natural bridges. To be a true natural bridge, the geologic feature must have been primarily formed by the force of water. If you find yourself enjoying the hobby or sport of "arch-hunting", we highly recommend that you explore these three outstanding websites: Utah Arches, Arches UK and especially, The Natural Arch & Bridge Society. As a final note, we would not recommend walking across the tops of any of these arches - a few significant arches seem to fall every decade, and occasionally someone is hurt or even killed by one. ![]() / ![]()
